Telenor launches Open Lab, a platform to innovate faster and better together with partners, startups and customers

Telenor is excited to announce the launch of Open Lab, a testbed designed to facilitate open innovation as a tool for growth, collaboration and technological advancement across industries to the better for society.
We are launching Open Lab to explore how we can innovate better and faster with partners, startups and customers to create sustainable growth for Telenor and value to society. We believe it's together that we shape the future of society, in win-win partnerships
Driving Open Innovation
Telenor’s Open Lab will allow Telenor, its customers and partners to test and validate new technologies in controlled environments, focusing on next generation network technology in the initial phase and with ambitions of expanding across other technologies, such as AI.
The initial phase of the Open Lab leverages advanced 5G capabilities, including network slicing, O-RAN, mobile private networks, and local breakout edge solutions. The Open Lab builds upon existing capabilities developed by Telenor Group’s Research & Innovation in collaboration with a diverse range of forward-thinking partners from pan-European research initiatives. Leading up to today’s launch, the platform has demonstrated next generation network capabilities through tests and experiments ranging from self-driving cars, forestry, and mission critical service field trials with drones, which have earned Telenor recognition for their research efforts in advancing 5G technology.
Establishing new facilities with specialized focus
With the heart of the platform located at Fornebu, specialized testing facilities are being established both in Gothenburg and on Svalbard.
Chosen for their unique characteristics, the two new locations will have specialized focus. Svalbard is one of the northernmost places with 5G coverage, and with the unique geography and climate, its testing facility will focus on mission critical services and regional autonomy.
The Gothenburg testing facility at Lindholmen Science Park will offer facilities for cutting-edge use cases, such as AI-driven predictive maintenance and warning systems, real-time monitoring, and enhanced worker safety solutions.
Extending partnerships to enable advanced testing
Behind the launch is a commitment to a partner-based approach to innovation across industries. By facilitating co-creation and innovation, Telenor aims to accelerate the development of solutions that address real-world challenges and create value for business and society.
In anticipation of the possibility of collaborating with Telenor and other industry leaders to shape the next generation of technology solutions, the Open Lab portal can be visited here.
