Telenor has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its move of TV streaming services to the cloud across the Nordic region. Telenor will use AWS to implement a cloud-native end to end streaming platform, to be used for live-TV, Catch up, Start Over, Network Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and Video on Demand (VOD).

The strategic initiative is a transformative step towards establishing a cutting-edge streaming platform designed to enhance the streaming services across Norway, Sweden, and Finland for Telenor. This move underscores Telenor’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art TV & Entertainment services, and builds on Telenor’s Video on Demand service which already uses the AWS cloud.

“This marks a major milestone in our journey to provide future-ready TV services for our Nordic customers. For Telenor, this is one of the first full-scale cloud native service platforms that we will implement,” said Jon Omund Revhaug, acting Executive Vice President and Head of Telenor Nordics. “The new platform will ensure that our Nordic customers can enjoy enhanced streaming quality and reliability, while also reflecting our commitment to cost efficiency.”

Telenor will build a Secure Media Cloud Platform, consisting of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD) environments, enabling fast, and scalable onboarding of applications. The implementation will be accelerated by AWS Professional Services using proven automation frameworks, aligned with Telenor’s Defendable Architecture.

Telenor will use Amazon S3, Amazon EC2 and AWS Direct Connect to build flexible, cost-effective video streaming services with petabyte level storage and multiple 100 Gbps connections to Telenor’s networks.

"By leveraging the breadth and depth of AWS cloud services, Telenor is enhancing the streaming experience on millions of customer devices across the Nordics,” said Fabio Cerone – GM, EMEA Telco at AWS. “This initiative demonstrates how cloud technology can drive innovation, scalability, and cost-efficiency in content delivery."
