Grameenphone Named Corporate Responsibility Champion
Grameenphone was invited to present its CR experiences at a 2007 workshop in Dhaka entitled "Private Sector Development: Partnerships for the Future".
The way forward for Bangladesh
At the workshop, donors, development partners, the Government of Bangladesh and business houses discussed the way forward for Bangladesh. The findings of a Status Report were presented to the participants. The report was the result of a comprehensive audit among the organisers to evaluate their combined activities to reach the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs).
Evaluating the development approach
The report evaluated the involvement (financial and project-wise) of all the donor organisations against the MDGs and PRSPs. Following the evaluation, five areas of developmental focus were identified:
- Business Enabling Environment
- Corporate Responsibility
- Trade
- Small and Medium Enterprise
- Finance
Participating organisations from all over the world
The event was organised jointly by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Department for International Development (UK), the Japan International Cooperation Society (JICA), the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), the International Finance Corporation (World Bank), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the EU and the Royal Dutch Embassy.
