Today Telenor’s and Telia’s Danish joint venture, TT-Netværket P/S, has obtained a licence to build a 4G network in the wide-range 800 MHz frequency band. The 800 MHz licence is a major step on the way to creating Denmark’s best network.
Telenor’s and Telia’s joint Danish infrastructure company, TT-Netværket P/S, has acquired 2x10 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz frequency band. That became clear when the Danish Business Authority’s frequency auction closed late yesterday. The 800 MHz frequency is well suited to ensuring a broad 4G rollout because a 4G mast will have a much wider range if this frequency is used.
“Mobile broadband data communication will become more and more important for Danish telecom customers over the next few years. The spectrum we have acquired today will allow us to reach even more Danes with 4G data connections. So the 800 MHz licence is a key element of fulfilling our ambition to create Denmark’s best network in terms of both voice and data,” says Jon Erik Haug, CEO of Telenor Danmark. TT-Netværket P/S will pay DKK 111.463.000 for the 800 MHz spectrum acquired yesterday.
Telenor and Telia have concluded an agreement to merge their 4G, 3G and 2G mobile networks. The first step will be taken in a few months, when 4G sharing begins. Once Telenor and Telia have established a joint 4G network, coverage will naturally also be the same for both companies – 75 per cent of the population. The 800 MHz spectrum acquired by Telenor and Telia today will make it possible to provide 4G services to an even greater share of the population.
